Scope note
Loricae made of overlapping bronze or iron scales attached to a foundation of hide or strong cloth, typically arranged in horizontal rows and imbricated like roof tiles to avoid gaps. Their use was adopted by the Romans by at least the 4th century BCE and continued into the 4th century CE.
